Rising Stars Youth Leadership Academy  participants selected will be a diverse group of  youth who have demonstrated a potential for leadership and a desire to help their community. 

  • Youth ages 13-18
  • Complete Application & Essay
  • Signed Regulations Form
  • Parent/Guardian Signature
  • Able to meet on designated days 

Get your application in on time, due date is  

May 25, 2018

Send it early if you can.  Be certain that your application is complete.  


 Application Checklist:

Read the information on Rising Stars.  Be sure you are willing to commit to this program.  

  • SIGNATURES:  Make sure one of your parents or guardians SIGNS the application.  Parent signatures are required.

  • ESSAY:  Think about your essay.  Does it really answer the question? Did you check for spelling and grammar?  Is it something you feel proud of?

  • REGULATIONS PAGE:  Make sure you read it and agree to follow this, you and your parents must sign.

Be sure to answer ALL questions, check and double check. Make a copy of the COMPLETED application and keep for your records.Staple everything together and turn it in. 


Due to limited spacing, only 200 applicants will be selected to participate in the program.  Youth ages 13-18 and who reside in Tarrant County must be available to participate in the 10 week summer program.

CONSIDERATION AND RESPECT MUST BE SHOWN AT ALL TIMES TOWARDS EVERYONE!!!

ATTENDANCE/ABSENCE POLICY: Maximum of 3 absences. All students must be present and ON TIME-No exceptions.

ABSENCE: If you are absent call Daphne Brookins at (817) 392-5784 (Leave student’s name and reason for absence)
VISITORS: Visitors are not allowed-no exceptions.

BOOKS/MANUALS: All books and manuals issued to you must be returned at the end of summer in order to receive your Graduation Certificate.

RESTROOMS: Are to be left clean wherever we may be meeting. No paper or other trash on the floors, pick up after yourself.

DRESS CODE: Dress appropriately. No caps or head coverings. No midriff or low cut tops; your mid-sections must be covered (front and back). All shirts must have a minimum of 2” straps on both sides of shirt (no spaghetti straps). Well-fitting jeans, pants, shorts. Shorts and skirts, when standing must be no more than 2” above the knees and must cover navel. Males & females: NO SAGGING PANTS. Pants MUST be worn at the waist, belt is required. Sensible shoes (NO house shoes).

Field Trip Dress Code: No headwear, No t-shirts/muscle shirts, no shorts, and no open toe/heel shoes. WEAR: shirt, black or khaki pants and comfortable closed toe/heel shoes.
**If you are not in compliance with dress code you will be sent home and counted absent.

CONDUCT: Proper conduct is REQUIRED at ALL times (in and out of class and on fieldtrips including the bus ride). Regular university classes or working in the workplace will be going on, be considerate!
i.e.: No running in the halls, no loud noises, excessive talking, or congregating in unauthorized areas. No alcohol beverages allowed. No smoking allowed.

ELECTRONIC DEVICES: ALL ELECTRONIC DEVICES CAN BE USED DURING BREAKS ONLY-NOT DURING SESSIONS. PHONES MUST BE PLACED ON SILENT OR OFF.
THESE INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: MP3 PLAYERS, CELL PHONES, iPODS, PSP’S, GAMES,

ETC. **If seen in use, devices will be confiscated and parents will be contacted.

DURING THE DAY

You may NOT leave the meeting area or field trip during the session hours until dismissal time. If you have to leave, a signed note from parent is required.

SPEAKER TIME: Sit up straight and take notes on speaker sheet. No talking, sleeping, texting or any other distracting behavior. BE RESPECTFUL TO SPEAKER AND OTHER STUDENTS.

Orientation and Session Start and End dates.

Parent / student Orientation will be held on June 5, 2018 at Tarrant County College, Trinity River Campus. 

Summer Sessions will be held once a week, on Tuesday’s, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., starting June 12, 2018 and ending August 14, 2018.  

Some students will have opportunities to participate in job shadowing and special interest field trips that may not fall on Tuesdays.  A certificate of completion and community service recognition will be awarded to each student at closing ceremony at the end of the 10 weeks.
